You Can’t Have This: Reverse Psychology Marketing

The Patagonia effort to take the high road, be responsible, be green, and tell people that they don’t need their jackets is great. This shows that there are no new tricks, just re-packaging. Patagonia places ad in paper saying “don’t buy” their jackets or products and what do the customers do…? They go and buy it! When you tell people that they can’t have something, what do they do? They want it. If you have kids, that that experiment yourself. It is amazing. It is like the days of Marlboro and the Marlboro Man. These were cigarettes for men and who has ended up smoking them the most… Women! It is fun to see a semi-old dog play an old trick. (BTW, I love Patagonia!)
